The youth folk dance group ‘Dejotprieks’ (The joy of dance) reformed to dance with a new cast on 1. October 1996. In a short period of time Dejotprieks has danced not only in Latvia but has entertained audiences with latvian dancing in:

  • Estonia (1997),
  • Lithuania,
  • Austria,
  • Italy (2000),
  • Croatia (2002),
  • Spain (2003),
  • Slovakia(2004)
  • and Greece (2005).
In summer 2000 we took part in an International Folk Dance festival "Folkestate 2000" in Italy. Every summer we try to visit different countries, different folk dance festivals. This summer (2006) we are going to Europeade in Zamora, Spain.

An audience was able to see the folk dance group perform in the Regional Folk Dance festival in Roja in 1997. In the next year there was the XXII Latvian Song and the XII Dance festival in Riga when ‘Dejotprieks’ took part. Everywhere we were able to see young and old people dressed in colourful national dresses. Everyone smiled and it was joy all around us.
In 2001 our capital Riga had its 800th anniversary and there was also a Folk Dance Festival in honour of the anniversary - we danced there, too. After that when there is any folk dance festival in Latvia, we join it and dance there, of course.Collective has taken part in Creation Dance Show in Valmiera almost every year. ‘Dejotprieks’ makes concert tours regularly. Youth dance everywhere - in rehabilitation centres, boarding schools and holiday hotels for old people and children. Dancers don’t wear only their traditional national costumes but they have also different kind of dances which are joyful - like clowns, Scotsmen, ghosts or devilkins , but that is not all…

Youth are there from all parts of Latvia. They are united by smile of youth for those years, joy of life and also song. But the main thing is dancing. They love it. There are friends, which help each other and our leader loves us for it. Those are chief things that have set our repertoire. It consists of merry, light, and original choreographies. Dances are full of vim and sparkling smile that we can find only in youth. The leader and art-adviser for the dance group, Sandra Keisele isalso as young, merry, joyful and smiling as the dancers. She has great experience in leading. We are proud of her. We also love her. Ignats Ančans helps us to train our dancing art.

We want to make new friends here in Latvia and also in foreign countries. We want to take part in different Festivals, Shows and Competitions everywhere. We want to see the world and meet people who want to see Latvian folk dances, that mean - us.Please, WRITE US!
